The expansion of Kochi Metro has taken a significant step forward after Texmaco Rail secured a key contract to supply and install the track system for a crucial stretch of the city’s upcoming Phase 2 corridor. The development marks an important milestone for the project, which aims to strengthen connectivity between Kochi’s urban centre and its rapidly growing IT and commercial districts.
The contract focuses on the installation of modern metro tracks for the elevated corridor that will link major transit points with Infopark, one of Kerala’s biggest technology hubs. As metro networks continue to expand across Indian cities, projects like this highlight the increasing focus on efficient and sustainable metro infrastructure.
The Phase 2 extension of Kochi Metro is designed to connect the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium area with the technology and business district in Kakkanad. This stretch is expected to serve thousands of commuters every day, particularly professionals working in the Infopark technology campus and surrounding offices.
With urban growth accelerating in Kochi’s eastern corridor, the new metro line is expected to significantly reduce travel time while offering a reliable alternative to congested road traffic. Once operational, the route will help create a seamless public transport network linking residential zones with business centres.
Winning the contract further strengthens Texmaco Rail’s presence in India’s growing railway and metro construction sector. The company will be responsible for designing, supplying, and installing advanced ballastless track systems, which are increasingly used in modern metro networks due to their durability and low maintenance requirements.
Ballastless track technology provides smoother rides and greater stability for high-frequency metro operations. This type of system is widely used in global metro networks and is now becoming a standard component of India’s expanding urban rail systems.
The expansion of Kochi Metro reflects a broader push across India to build sustainable urban transport solutions that reduce congestion and support economic growth. Cities are increasingly investing in metro systems to address rising population density and daily commuting challenges.
For Kochi, the Phase 2 project is expected to transform connectivity to the city’s growing technology corridor while encouraging greater use of public transport. As construction progresses and infrastructure partners like Texmaco Railtake on critical components of the project, the metro network is steadily moving toward becoming a central pillar of the city’s mobility future.
