DHL Express expands Hanoi flights to meet tech export demand

Post by : Meena Rani

DHL Express has announced the expansion of its daily flight operations from Hanoi, enhancing payload capacity to support Vietnam’s booming export sector. The move comes amid a sharp rise in shipments driven by the country’s fast-growing technology manufacturing industry, which has made northern Vietnam a critical hub in global supply chains.

Rising demand from tech exports

In the first half of 2025, DHL recorded double-digit growth in tech-related shipment exports originating from Hanoi. This surge reflects Vietnam’s rapid climb as a global manufacturing center for high-value products, including laptops, consumer electronics, and semiconductors.

To meet this escalating demand, DHL Express has introduced additional flights using Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 freighters. These aircraft, operating throughout the week, will provide an extra 300 tons of weekly payload capacity, connecting Vietnamese exporters with key destinations across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. All shipments will be routed via Hong Kong, a central hub for DHL’s global network.

Strategic commitment to Vietnam

Peter Bardens, Senior Vice President for Network Operations & Aviation – Asia Pacific, DHL Express, emphasized the company’s focus on aligning operations with Vietnam’s growth trajectory.

“Vietnam has risen as a tech manufacturing powerhouse in recent years, especially in the northern region where Hanoi is seeing a boom in high-tech exports. By enhancing our air network in Hanoi, we are reinforcing Vietnam’s role in global trade and ensuring that our customers can also capitalize on the country’s growth momentum,” Bardens said.

This expansion highlights DHL’s continued investment in Vietnam, ensuring that businesses in the country can access global markets with speed, reliability, and scalability.

Vietnam’s high-tech growth trajectory

Vietnam’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector is on track for remarkable growth. According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, the industry is projected to generate total revenues of $169.3 billion in 2025, marking an 11.4% increase from 2024. Hardware and electronics exports are also forecast to rise by 12.3%, reaching $148.5 billion.

The DHL Trade Atlas 2025 further projects that Vietnam will rank among the top 30 countries worldwide for trade growth in speed and scale over the next five years. Moreover, DHL Group recognizes Vietnam as one of the top 20 high-growth markets, thanks to its strategic location in Southeast Asia, competitive workforce, and favorable trade policies.

Strengthening logistics infrastructure

To complement the expanded flight operations, DHL Express has recently launched two major infrastructure projects in Hanoi:

  • Hanoi Gateway facility – strategically located near Noi Bai International Airport, designed to improve cargo processing speed and efficiency.

  • West Service Center – aimed at enhancing customer service capabilities and ensuring the timely delivery of shipments.

These investments demonstrate DHL’s long-term vision of embedding itself within Vietnam’s supply chain ecosystem while enabling exporters to capture new international business opportunities.

Vietnam’s rising global role

The expansion of DHL’s air network underscores Vietnam’s increasing significance in global trade. The country has positioned itself as an alternative manufacturing hub for global technology companies, diversifying supply chains. Major multinational firms have shifted production to Vietnam to mitigate risks associated with over-reliance on single-market sourcing.

With DHL Express’s expanded services, exporters in Hanoi and surrounding provinces will have access to faster, more efficient international connections. This development not only supports local businesses but also bolsters Vietnam’s image as a reliable global trade partner.

As demand for high-tech products continues to surge worldwide, Vietnam’s role in supply chains is expected to grow stronger. The combination of government-driven ICT sector expansion, multinational investment, and logistics support from global players like DHL will further elevate the country’s competitiveness.

By aligning its aviation network and infrastructure with market demand, DHL Express ensures that Vietnamese exporters are equipped to seize global opportunities. The company’s latest expansion in Hanoi exemplifies how logistics innovation can fuel economic growth and reinforce a country’s place in international trade.
