ST Engineering Unveils Cargo Drone and Marine Craft at Singapore Airshow

Post by : Saif

Singapore-based ST Engineering has taken a major step into future transport technology by unveiling new aviation and marine platforms at the Singapore Airshow. The company showcased a large electric cargo drone and announced new partnerships for a high-speed marine craft, showing its plans to expand beyond traditional aircraft maintenance.

At the airshow, ST Engineering launched the DrN-600, an all-electric cargo drone that can take off and land vertically. The drone can carry up to 100 kilograms of cargo and fly more than 70 kilometers. It is designed for medium-sized cargo jobs such as delivery to remote areas, industrial supply transport, and security support. The company expects the drone to receive certification by 2028.

Company leaders said the cargo drone opens the door to a new market. Drones like the DrN-600 could change how goods are moved, making delivery faster and safer. Jobs that once needed people or helicopters, such as checking power lines or remote structures, can now be done more easily using drones.

ST Engineering believes drones may replace some helicopters, ferries, and small aircraft in the future. However, the company said drones will grow slowly and will not replace large commercial airplanes anytime soon. While the first focus is on commercial use, the company has not ruled out possible defense applications later.

One of the biggest challenges facing drone growth is regulation. Many countries are still developing rules for drone flights, especially over cities. ST Engineering said it is working closely with governments to improve safety systems and air traffic control for unmanned aircraft.

Alongside its drone launch, ST Engineering also announced progress in marine transport. Its joint venture, ST Engineering AirX, signed deals with ferry operators in Southeast Asia and India. These partnerships aim to bring the AirFish Voyager to the market. The AirFish Voyager is a 10-passenger craft that glides above water and can travel at speeds of up to 100 knots. It is designed to offer fast and smooth travel between coastal locations.

Even as it explores new technologies, ST Engineering continues to grow its core aircraft maintenance business. The company recently opened an integrated airframe and engine service center in Singapore. This new facility is expected to reduce repair times and improve service for airlines. Over the past year, ST Engineering has also expanded its maintenance operations in the United States and China.

By investing in drones, marine craft, and advanced maintenance services, ST Engineering is positioning itself as a leader in next-generation transport. The company’s moves reflect how the aviation industry is changing, with new technology playing a bigger role in how people and goods move around the world.
