Business confidence in Germany improved more than economists had expected in July, according to the latest survey from the Ifo Institute, signaling growing optimism among companies despite ongoing geopolitical risks.
The Ifo Business Climate Index increased to 86.6 in July from 85.7 in June, reaching its highest level since February and recording a third consecutive monthly gain. The reading also exceeded analysts' forecast of 86.0.
The survey found that German companies became more optimistic about future economic conditions.
The Expectations Index climbed to 86.7, up from 84.3 in June, marking its strongest level in six months.
Economists said the improvement reflects confidence in the German government's reform agenda, continued investment in infrastructure and hopes that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East may ease.
Ifo President Clemens Fuest said the German economy is showing less pessimism despite uncertainty surrounding developments in the Persian Gulf.
While future expectations improved, companies were slightly less satisfied with their present business situation.
The Current Conditions Index slipped to 86.5 in July from 87.0 in the previous month, indicating that many businesses are still facing operational challenges.
Economists noted that rising energy costs and ongoing uncertainty continue to affect day-to-day business activity.

Analysts said businesses remain cautious because renewed tensions in the Persian Gulf have pushed oil and natural gas prices higher.
Higher energy costs could increase production expenses for German manufacturers, particularly export-oriented industries such as automotive, chemicals and heavy manufacturing. Experts warned that if energy prices remain elevated, they could weigh on economic growth in the coming months.
The latest survey suggests Germany's economy is gradually becoming more resilient after a prolonged period of weak growth.
Although stronger business confidence points to improving economic momentum, economists say sustained recovery will depend on stable energy markets, continued government investment and easing geopolitical tensions.
