India’s maritime logistics sector continues to gain strength as DP World’s Mundra International Container Terminal delivered a strong operational performance in calendar year 2025. The terminal handled nearly 1.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the year, underscoring its importance as one of the country’s most active gateways for export-import cargo. The milestone highlights the growing role of private container terminals in supporting India’s expanding trade ecosystem. As manufacturing exports rise and supply chains become more integrated with global markets, ports like Mundra are becoming vital infrastructure linking Indian businesses with international trade routes.

A steady rise in vessel traffic has played a key role in boosting container throughput at the terminal. Shipping lines are increasingly choosing Mundra due to its strategic location along major global trade routes and its ability to handle large volumes efficiently. Higher vessel calls allow the port to accommodate more cargo movement while maintaining faster turnaround times for ships. This operational efficiency has helped the terminal strengthen its position within the competitive landscape of global maritime logistics.

Another major factor behind the terminal’s growth is its expanding rail connectivity with India’s inland industrial corridors. Containers transported by rail have increased steadily, allowing goods from manufacturing centers to move more efficiently to the port for export. This integrated logistics network connects factories, inland container depots, and shipping terminals in a seamless chain. For exporters, improved connectivity means faster cargo movement and greater reliability in meeting international shipping schedules.

DP World has continued investing in advanced infrastructure and cargo-handling technology to support rising container volumes. Modern quay cranes and yard equipment enable the terminal to handle larger vessels while maintaining high operational productivity. Such investments are essential for ports that aim to remain competitive in a global shipping industry increasingly dominated by large container vessels and complex logistics networks.

The strong cargo performance at Mundra reflects a broader transformation in India’s logistics landscape. As the country seeks to expand its role in global trade, efficient ports are becoming the backbone of supply chain connectivity. By supporting exporters, importers, and global shipping lines, Mundra plays a crucial role in facilitating trade flows that connect India to markets across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.

Handling 1.5 million TEUs in a single year is more than just a milestone for DP World Mundra, it is a clear signal of the growing momentum within India’s maritime logistics sector. As global trade volumes rise and supply chains evolve, the port is well positioned to handle larger cargo flows in the years ahead. With continued infrastructure upgrades and stronger connectivity to inland markets, Mundra is set to remain a central pillar of India’s export-import ecosystem and a key driver of the country’s global trade ambitions.
