Unitree’s highly anticipated Shanghai listing has sparked strong investor demand, highlighting growing confidence in China’s humanoid robotics industry.
Chinese humanoid robot maker Unitree is preparing for a highly anticipated debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, with investors expecting its shares to surge after an extraordinary response to its initial public offering.
Unitree’s IPO was oversubscribed more than 8,000 times by retail investors, setting a record for Shanghai’s STAR Market, which focuses on technology companies.
The company offered shares at 150.8 yuan each and raised about 6.1 billion yuan ($905 million) by selling 10% of its enlarged share capital.
Excitement around Unitree has spread beyond China's regulated stock market.
Private share platforms have indicated that Unitree shares could rise sharply once trading begins. Some estimates suggest the stock could almost triple from its IPO price, while derivative contracts traded on crypto platforms have pointed to even larger gains.
Chinese media have also reported that some successful IPO subscribers were approached by buyers offering around 410 yuan per share, representing a premium of roughly 170% over the offering price.
Unitree’s listing date was expected to be announced later on Friday.
Unitree has become one of China's best-known humanoid robotics companies, with its robots attracting international attention for activities including running, dancing and martial arts demonstrations.
The company competes with major robotics players such as Boston Dynamics and Tesla.
Unitree is also notable because it is already profitable, giving it an advantage over several robotics startups that are still investing heavily in research and development without generating consistent profits.
Investment analysts have described the listing as an important moment for China's robotics industry because Unitree combines commercial scale with profitability.

Investor enthusiasm has also been linked to perceptions of strong government support for China's robotics sector.
Beijing has identified advanced robotics and artificial intelligence as strategic technologies as it seeks to strengthen China's position in global technology competition.
Unitree founder Wang Xingxing previously attended a high-level meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping alongside leading technology entrepreneurs.
The company has also received backing from major Chinese technology firms, including Tencent and Alibaba, while DeepSeek is among its reported supporters.
Unitree is not the first Chinese humanoid robotics company to enter public markets.
Hong Kong-listed companies include UBTech and Dobot, while other robotics firms such as Leju Robotics and Agitbot are also preparing for potential listings.
Unitree stands out because it is considered one of the world's largest humanoid robot makers by sales and is the first general-purpose robotics company in mainland China to make a public market debut.
Its success could encourage investors to put more money into China's rapidly developing robotics sector.
Despite the strong enthusiasm, analysts have warned that Unitree's valuation could become disconnected from the company's current fundamentals.
The humanoid robotics industry remains relatively young, with only a limited number of mature commercial applications, particularly in industrial environments.
Unitree also faces increasing competition from Chinese and international robotics companies. Restrictions on Chinese humanoid robot sales in the United States could further limit its international expansion.
A strong debut would nevertheless provide a major boost to China's technology market and reinforce expectations that humanoid robots could become one of the country's next major technology industries.
