South Korean shipbuilder HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HDKSOE) has joined hands with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMSZCS) as a strategic partner. This partnership will help both work together on long-term plans to create and grow zero-carbon solutions for ships and the shipping industry.

HDKSOE will share its skills in ship design, engineering, digital technology, and new types of ship engines. This will strengthen the Center’s goal to speed up the move to cleaner shipping through new ideas and big industrial projects.

The shipbuilder has already been working on green ship designs and using fuels like ammonia and methanol to power ships. They are also developing fuel cells and digital twin systems to help cut down harmful emissions.

With HDKSOE on board, the Center hopes to turn new technology ideas into real ships that can be used in the market.

HDKSOE said, “We are proud to work with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center. This partnership fits with our goal to create new ideas that help the shipping industry grow in a sustainable way. Using our shipbuilding experience, we want to help the industry become carbon neutral faster.”

Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of the Center, said, “We are very happy to have HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering as a partner. Their technology skills and industrial strength will help us bring new solutions to life on a big scale. Their work is exactly what we need to speed up cleaner shipping.”

The Center started in 2020 with support from the A.P. Moller Foundation. It works with many partners, governments, scientists, and companies to help reduce pollution from shipping.

Other important partners include big names like Maersk, Alfa Laval, bp, Cargill, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Siemens Energy, and many more.
