North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s young daughter, Kim Ju Ae, made her first public visit to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on January 1, state media reported. She was seen accompanying her parents, Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju, during the visit to honor North Korea’s former leaders, including her grandfather Kim Jong Il and great-grandfather Kim Il Sung.

The Kumsusan Palace of the Sun is North Korea’s state mausoleum and a symbol of the country’s leadership lineage. Visits to the palace are highly symbolic and usually reserved for top officials. Experts say that Ju Ae’s public presence at this event is significant and may indicate that her father is gradually introducing her to the country’s political stage.

Kim Ju Ae has been appearing more frequently in state media over the past three years, leading to speculation that she could be prepared as a future leader of North Korea. Analysts and South Korean intelligence agencies have suggested that she might eventually become the country’s fourth-generation leader. However, no official position has been assigned to her, and North Korea has not confirmed her exact age, though she is believed to have been born in the early 2010s.

State media images showed Ju Ae positioned between her parents during the visit, highlighting the image of a “stable family,” according to Hong Min, a North Korea expert at the Korea Institute for National Unification. Her public appearances aim to reinforce the dynastic heritage of the country, a key part of the leadership’s image.

Ju Ae also took part in New Year celebrations and traveled to Beijing with her father last September, marking her first public overseas visit. These appearances suggest that Kim Jong Un may be preparing her for more visibility in state affairs, particularly ahead of major events such as the upcoming ruling party Congress, where her future role could be signaled.

Despite the attention, South Korea’s Unification Ministry cautioned against drawing conclusions about her succession. Officials noted that she is still very young and not yet eligible for party membership or formal political responsibilities. Hong Min also warned that North Korea’s other children may have potential roles, and it remains too early to confirm Ju Ae as a successor.

The visit to Kumsusan underscores North Korea’s focus on family leadership and dynastic continuity. While the country continues to maintain strict secrecy around the details of its leader’s family, Kim Ju Ae’s public presence marks an important step in introducing her to the nation and the world.

Whether she will assume a leadership role in the future remains uncertain, but analysts agree that these carefully staged appearances are part of a long-term strategy by Kim Jong Un to shape public perception and signal continuity of his family’s rule.
