Dangote Group is planning an initial public offering for its refinery business in Nigeria that could raise around $1.5 billion, according to people familiar with the deal.
The refinery unit is expected to offer about 4.1 billion shares at a proposed price of 525 naira ($0.40) per share. The final terms of the offering could still change because the details remain private.
The planned offering could become the largest IPO in Africa if it goes ahead as expected.
The order book is scheduled to open on September 14, according to one source familiar with the transaction. Dangote Group has not publicly confirmed all details of the proposed share sale.
Dangote Refinery declined to comment on the reported IPO plans.

The proposed IPO is also expected to include a 15% green shoe option. This provision would allow the company to sell additional shares if investor demand exceeds the initial offering.
Such an option could provide Dangote with additional funding if the IPO attracts strong interest from investors.
Funds raised through the IPO are expected to support the expansion of the Dangote refinery in Lagos.
The company plans to double the refinery’s capacity to 1.4 million barrels of oil per day. The expansion would significantly increase the facility’s ability to process crude oil and supply refined petroleum products.
Aliko Dangote, founder and majority shareholder of Dangote Group, said at a business meeting in Botswana that the IPO would open within the next 10 to 12 days.
The planned listing represents an important step for Dangote Group as it seeks additional capital for one of Africa’s largest industrial projects.
Dangote Refinery has become an important part of Nigeria’s efforts to increase domestic refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.
Expansion of the facility could strengthen Nigeria’s refining industry and increase its potential role in supplying fuel to domestic and regional markets.
Investor interest in the IPO will likely depend on the refinery’s financial performance, future production levels and expectations for Nigeria’s energy market.
