Nissan plans to launch the Rogue e-Power hybrid in the United States in November as the Japanese automaker expands its hybrid vehicle lineup in one of its most important markets.
Nissan Americas Chairman Christian Meunier said the company expects hybrid vehicles to quickly reach 30% to 40% of sales in the US mid-sized C-segment vehicle market.
The Rogue e-Power will also mark the first time Nissan's e-Power technology is offered to US customers. Nissan has already sold more than 2 million e-Power vehicles globally.
The technology uses an engine to generate electricity, while an electric motor drives the vehicle. This gives the vehicle an electric-style driving experience without requiring the same charging setup as a fully electric vehicle.
Nissan also plans to bring the smaller Kicks e-Power hybrid to the United States and Canada as soon as possible.
The company is considering hybrid powertrains for larger SUVs and pickup trucks in the future. The strategy comes as automakers continue to adjust their product plans based on consumer demand for electric and hybrid vehicles.
Nissan is also preparing for possible changes in the US automotive market. Meunier said the company does not expect Chinese automakers to enter the US market over the next five years.
However, Nissan is preparing for greater competition by working to shorten vehicle development times and reduce production costs.
Nissan is also seeking to increase the share of vehicles and components produced in the United States.
The company currently has about 65% localisation in US manufacturing and aims to increase that figure to 80% by the end of 2030. Meunier said localisation was around 40% before US tariffs were introduced in early 2025.
US production of the Rogue e-Power could begin as early as 2028, according to Meunier.
Increasing local production could help Nissan reduce exposure to tariffs and strengthen its supply chain in the US market.

Nissan's hybrid strategy is not limited to the US. The automaker also plans to introduce the China-built Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid pickup in Mexico and selected Latin American markets.
The move gives Nissan another option as demand for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles develops across the Americas.
The Rogue e-Power launch in November will be an important step for Nissan as it brings a technology already used widely in other markets to US customers. The company is also preparing additional hybrid models while increasing local manufacturing and reducing development costs.
