Amazon India has expanded its logistics capabilities by launching a new Guwahati–Kolkata cargo route under its Amazon Air network. The move aims to strengthen logistics connectivity in Northeast India while enabling faster delivery of e-commerce shipments across the region. The new air cargo corridor is designed to link key logistics hubs with northeastern states, helping Amazon reduce delivery times and improve supply chain efficiency for customers and sellers.
The introduction of the Amazon Air cargo network route will significantly accelerate package movement between eastern India and the Northeast. Air cargo operations allow shipments to travel overnight between major hubs, dramatically cutting down transit times compared with traditional road transportation. For customers in remote and geographically challenging areas of the Northeast, this expansion could translate into faster order fulfillment and improved service reliability.
By adding the Guwahati route, Amazon is strengthening the Northeast India logistics ecosystem and integrating the region more closely into the company’s national delivery network. Guwahati acts as the gateway to the Northeast, making it a strategic location for logistics and cargo distribution. Connecting this hub with Kolkata creates a more efficient supply chain route for parcels moving between India’s eastern logistics centers and northeastern states.
The improved air cargo connectivity is also expected to benefit businesses operating in the region. Many small and medium enterprises in the Northeast face logistical challenges when shipping products to customers across the country. With faster air freight links, sellers can reach wider markets, enabling regional products to gain better access to India’s expanding online consumer base.
The expansion of the Amazon Air cargo network reflects the rising importance of aviation infrastructure in the e-commerce logistics sector. Dedicated cargo aircraft allow companies to move high volumes of packages quickly between cities, supporting next-day and even same-day delivery services. As online shopping continues to grow in India, logistics companies are increasingly relying on air cargo to maintain speed, reliability, and operational flexibility.
The launch of the Guwahati Kolkata cargo route represents another step toward improving economic connectivity in Northeast India. Faster logistics networks not only enhance customer experience but also help integrate regional markets with the broader national economy.
For Amazon, the expansion signals a deeper commitment to reaching underserved regions while strengthening the infrastructure required to support the future growth of India’s digital commerce ecosystem.
