SpaceX recorded revenue of $14.6 billion for the July-to-September quarter, up 161% from the same period last year. Net profit reached $4.4 billion, compared with a $1.1 billion loss a year earlier. The results marked the company’s first quarterly profit since going public.
Artificial intelligence became the company’s largest revenue source, generating about $7.6 billion during the quarter. Growth was driven by computing services for AI developers, software products and related investments.
Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet business, also continued to expand. Its revenue increased as more consumers, businesses and government customers adopted satellite connectivity. Starlink remains an important profit generator for the company.
Musk said independent committees at both companies were examining a possible merger at shareholders’ request. He believes combining their operations could improve cooperation in AI software, chip design, robotics and communications technology.
However, the committees have not agreed on deal terms, and any transaction would require shareholder support. Musk also said he could not participate in the committees’ discussions because of his personal interests in both businesses.
A merger could unite electric vehicles, satellite networks, rocket launches, AI computing and robotics under one corporate structure. It would also raise questions about corporate governance, regulation and how the interests of shareholders in each company would be protected.
Despite strong earnings, SpaceX is spending heavily to expand its AI computing infrastructure and develop advanced space technology. Capital expenditure reached $19.6 billion in the third quarter, nearly three times the level recorded a year earlier.
The company expects spending to rise to between $35 billion and $40 billion in the current quarter. Investors will be watching whether its growing revenue can support these investments over the longer term.

SpaceX is also preparing for another planned Starship launch, with Musk outlining an attempt to recover both the rocket booster and spacecraft using mechanical arms. The test aims to advance the company’s goal of making its launch system fully reusable.
The technology is important to SpaceX’s plans for future lunar missions and wider space exploration. The company hopes more frequent launches will help expand its satellite network and support NASA’s upcoming Moon missions.
SpaceX’s latest results have strengthened its financial position, but the possible Tesla merger remains at an early stage. Investors will be closely watching the next steps in the discussions, the company’s spending plans and its ability to turn AI growth into lasting profits.
