In a major boost to Delhi’s urban transit landscape, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded a ₹222.76 crore contract to construction firm SAM India for the development of the Yuge-Yugeen Bharat metro station. The award marks a key milestone in the city’s metro expansion programme and reflects ongoing government investments in modern urban infrastructure under the broader urban transit policies & PPPs framework.
The Yuge-Yugeen Bharat station is part of the ambitious network extension designed to enhance connectivity for commuters in densely populated and strategically important zones. Situated on an upcoming metro corridor, the station is expected to become a central transit node that supports easier daily travel for thousands of residents, students, professionals and visitors.
The contract valued at ₹222.76 crore encompasses civil works, structural development and associated facilities for the new station. SAM India, already engaged in several metro and urban rail projects across the country will handle everything from foundation construction to finishing, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards aligned with DMRC’s rigorous requirements.
Transport authorities say the Yuge-Yugeen Bharat station will feature passenger-friendly elements such as multiple entry/exit points, escalators, lifts for differently-abled commuters, modern safety systems, and provisions for seamless integration with feeder bus and last-mile connectivity options.
The investment underscores how Delhi Metro expansion continues to be prioritised as a sustainable solution to traffic congestion, pollution and urban travel inefficiencies. With growing ridership and rapid urbanisation in the National Capital Region, the expansion of metro services remains central to alleviating pressure on surface transport networks.
Installation of state-of-the-art facilities at the Yuge-Yugeen Bharat station is expected to significantly improve commuter experience while enabling better access to economic and educational hubs. Urban planners emphasise that each new metro station not only serves as a transit point but also catalyses local development attracting commercial activity, improving real estate prospects and offering greener mobility alternatives.
The Delhi Metro’s network expansion, supported by high-value contracts like this one, reflects a long-term vision for a comprehensive mass transit system that accommodates future population growth and evolving travel needs.
Construction timelines and commissioning dates will be finalised in coordination with DMRC’s broader corridor rollout plan. Once operational, the Yuge-Yugeen Bharat metro station will stand as another tangible achievement in Delhi’s ongoing transformation into a truly connected and sustainable urban centre.
