Global oil prices declined sharply on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that negotiations with Iran would begin later in the day, raising expectations of easing tensions in the Middle East.
Brent crude fell by more than 4%, as investors anticipated that a diplomatic breakthrough could help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy shipping route, and reduce concerns over disruptions to oil supplies.
The prospect of renewed diplomacy boosted investor confidence across global markets. U.S. and European stock futures moved higher as traders welcomed the possibility of reduced geopolitical risks.
Lower oil prices also eased concerns about inflation, improving market sentiment after weeks of volatility linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The Japanese yen gained strength after the United States and Japan confirmed a coordinated currency intervention to support the weakening Japanese currency.
The yen rose to its strongest level in nearly three months, reversing part of its decline after previously touching multi-decade lows against the U.S. dollar.
Officials from both countries indicated they remain prepared to take further action if needed to stabilize currency markets.

Despite stronger sentiment in Western markets, Asian stock markets traded lower. Japan's Nikkei index and South Korea's KOSPI declined as investors remained cautious following recent market volatility and uncertainty over global economic conditions.
Market participants also continued to monitor central bank policy expectations and geopolitical developments.
The decline in crude oil prices also supported government bond markets. U.S. Treasury yields moved lower as investors reduced concerns about inflationary pressure caused by higher energy costs.
Analysts said the market is closely watching developments surrounding the Iran talks, central bank decisions, and currency movements for further direction.
Financial markets are expected to remain sensitive to developments from the upcoming U.S.-Iran negotiations. Any progress toward reducing regional tensions could influence oil prices, currency markets, and global investor confidence in the coming days.
