India’s push towards becoming a global leader in unmanned aerial systems has gained significant momentum as BonV Aero announces a ₹300 crore investment to establish a state-of-the-art UAV manufacturing facility in Odisha. This move is not just another industrial expansion. It signals a strategic shift in India’s aerospace landscape, where emerging regions like Odisha are positioning themselves as critical hubs for next-generation aviation technologies. As global demand for drones accelerates across defence, logistics, and infrastructure sectors, this development places India firmly on the path toward self-reliance and technological leadership.
The upcoming facility, spread across approximately 2.5 acres in Khordha, is designed as a comprehensive UAV ecosystem rather than a standalone production unit. It will house advanced drone assembly lines, a dedicated Centre of Excellence for research and development, and an industrial skilling centre aimed at building a future-ready workforce. In addition, the project includes Odisha’s first drone park for testing and innovation, along with a Remote Pilot Training Organisation to certify and train drone operators. This integrated approach ensures that manufacturing, testing, training, and innovation coexist within a single ecosystem creating a powerful multiplier effect for the region’s aerospace ambitions.
Beyond technological advancement, the project is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs within the next two years, significantly boosting local employment and skill development. More importantly, it aims to integrate micro, small, and medium enterprises into its supply chain, creating a ripple effect across Odisha’s industrial landscape. By embedding local businesses into high-tech manufacturing processes, the initiative not only strengthens domestic capabilities but also ensures that the benefits of aerospace growth are distributed across multiple economic layers.
At the heart of this investment lies a clear focus on versatility and real-world application. BonV Aero has already showcased multiple drone platforms tailored for defence operations, logistics delivery, and infrastructure monitoring including capabilities designed to function in GPS-denied environments. This highlights a broader industry trend where drones are no longer niche tools but essential components of modern transportation, surveillance, and supply chain systems. The facility is expected to accelerate the development of such advanced platforms, strengthening India’s position in both domestic deployment and global export markets.
The decision to establish the facility in Odisha is closely tied to the state’s proactive policy framework, including aerospace and defence manufacturing initiatives and dedicated schemes supporting drone and e-VTOL development. Backed by a larger ₹17,000+ crore defence and aerospace ecosystem in the region, Odisha is rapidly transforming into a preferred destination for deep-tech investments. This alignment between policy support and private sector ambition is creating a fertile ground for innovation-driven growth, making the state a key player in India’s aviation future.
Traditionally, India’s aerospace manufacturing has been concentrated in a few established regions. However, this development signals a geographical shift, with new states emerging as innovation hubs. Odisha’s entry into the UAV manufacturing space reflects a decentralisation of high-tech industries, enabling broader national participation in advanced manufacturing. This diversification not only reduces regional imbalances but also strengthens India’s overall industrial resilience.
The ₹300 crore UAV facility is more than an investment, it is a statement of intent. As drones become integral to modern transportation, defence, and logistics ecosystems, the ability to design and manufacture them domestically will define a nation’s technological strength. With this project, BonV Aero is not just building infrastructure; it is building the foundation of India’s future in aerial mobility. The real impact of this initiative will unfold in the years ahead, but one thing is certain India’s drone revolution has just found a powerful new launchpad.
