Greenply Inaugurates New Manufacturing Facility in Semiliguda Odisha

Post by : Meena Rani

Greenply Industries, a leading name in India’s plywood and wood panel industry, has inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Semiliguda, Odisha, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Greenply Sandila. The launch marks a strategic move to bolster the company’s production capabilities while supporting India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

The facility is expected to generate over 1,200 direct employment opportunities, contributing significantly to local economic development. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and senior state officials, highlighting the project’s importance for the region.

Sustainable Manufacturing Practices

The Semiliguda plant is designed to produce plywood and medium-density fibreboard (MDF) using plantation-grown timber, ensuring environmentally responsible operations. By sourcing raw materials from sustainable plantations, the company addresses rising industry demand while promoting agroforestry practices that benefit local communities and the environment.

Rajesh Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of Greenply Industries, emphasized the broader impact of the project: “This facility reinforces Greenply’s commitment to sustainability, local employment, and industry advancement, setting a benchmark for responsible industrial growth in India’s eastern region.”

Strategic Location and Logistics Advantages

Located with direct access to major road and rail networks, the Semiliguda facility offers strategic advantages for logistics and distribution. This connectivity is expected to reduce transportation costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and strengthen Greenply’s ability to serve markets across eastern and northeastern India.

The plant is also positioned to act as a central hub for advanced manufacturing, aligning with the company’s long-term expansion plans while fostering regional industrial growth.

Economic Impact and Regional Development

The inauguration of the facility underscores the potential of public-private collaboration in driving economic development. The Odisha government facilitated the project through initiatives such as land allotment and expedited regulatory clearances, reflecting a commitment to supporting industrial investment in the state.

With a workforce of over 1,200 direct employees, the plant will create additional indirect employment opportunities in logistics, transportation, and ancillary services. This infusion of jobs and industrial activity is expected to contribute to local skill development and overall socio-economic upliftment in the region.

Commitment to Sustainability and Industry Growth

Greenply Industries’ investment in Semiliguda demonstrates a forward-looking approach to balancing economic growth with environmental responsibility. By leveraging plantation timber and eco-conscious manufacturing methods, the company is setting a precedent for sustainable operations in the wood panel sector.

The facility aligns with global trends emphasizing resource efficiency, reduced carbon footprint, and renewable materials, ensuring that Greenply remains a responsible and competitive player in the domestic and international markets.

The Semiliguda plant reflects Greenply Industries’ confidence in India’s eastern region as a hub for industrial expansion. By combining strategic location, sustainable manufacturing practices, and significant job creation, the project serves as a model for how private enterprise can contribute to regional development, environmental stewardship, and long-term economic resilience.

As India continues to push forward with initiatives like Make in India, projects like Greenply’s Semiliguda facility reinforce the critical role of industry-government collaboration in driving large-scale, sustainable growth.
