Stellantis has launched its IBIS battery, a breakthrough in electric vehicle technology promising faster charging, longer range, and higher efficiency. Developed in partnership with Saft, a TotalEnergies subsidiary, the IBIS integrates the inverter and charger directly into the battery, cutting 40kg of weight and freeing up space.
Road tests in the Peugeot e-3008 show a 10% boost in efficiency and 1-hour faster charging, representing a 15% improvement over existing battery setups. Stellantis aims to roll out this technology by the end of the decade, tackling EV challenges like charging speed and affordability.
As rivals like Porsche and other automakers engineer their next-gen batteries, the competition is set to intensify, driving innovation across the EV market. The IBIS battery could accelerate the global shift from gasoline to electric, impact energy grids, sustainability strategies, and clean energy adoption, and make EVs more accessible to everyday drivers.
