Solaris Powers Warsaw’s Eco-Transit with 79 New Electric Buses

Representatives of Solaris Bus & Coach and MZA Warsaw have signed a contract for the delivery of 79 new electric buses, marking another milestone in the long-standing cooperation between the two parties.

Under the agreement, Solaris will supply 50 Urbino 18 electric articulated buses and 29 Urbino 12 electric buses to the Polish capital. The contract also includes an option to purchase an additional 79 vehicles — comprising 29 twelve-meter buses and 50 eighteen-meter buses. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.

A Long-Term Partnership

Solaris highlights that it has delivered a total of 163 electric buses to MZA Warsaw so far. Over the 28 years of partnership, Solaris has supplied nearly 1,350 vehicles to the city. The last order, consisting of 50 articulated e-buses, was finalized in early 2025. Previous major deliveries included 130 vehicles ordered in 2019, along with two batches of 12 buses each delivered in December 2023 and March 2024.

Innovative Bus Technology

The newly ordered buses will feature Solaris’ modular drive system architecture, first presented in April 2024. By eliminating the conventional engine tower, this design allows for:

• Increased passenger space

• Additional rooftop space for batteries

The vehicles will be equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries, boasting capacities of over 500 kWh for the 12-meter models and over 700 kWh for articulated buses. Charging will be conducted via a plug-in connector.

In line with GSR2 regulations, the buses will also include advanced safety and driver-assistance systems, such as:

• Blind spot monitoring

• Driver drowsiness warning system
