June 25, 2025 | Riyadh — In a dramatic reveal that signals the rising ambitions of Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector, the Kingdom’s new national carrier, Riyadh Air, has unveiled its long-awaited Boeing 787 Dreamliner cabin interiors. The airline, which plans to begin operations in 2025, showcased a cutting-edge four-class configuration that blends high design, advanced technology, and customer-centric luxury—positioning itself as a formidable competitor to regional heavyweights like Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad.
The cabin reveal was held at a media event in Riyadh and marks a critical milestone for the startup airline, which is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The airline aims to be a central pillar of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative to diversify its economy and turn Riyadh into a global tourism and transport hub. And judging by the interiors of its long-haul fleet, Riyadh Air is pulling no punches in redefining the standard for Gulf aviation.
At the pinnacle of Riyadh Air’s in-flight experience is its First Class cabin, designed to emulate the exclusivity and comfort of a private jet. Each passenger will enjoy a fully enclosed suite featuring a sliding door, personal wardrobe, and a spacious lie-flat bed complete with luxury bedding and custom lighting controls. Materials include rich leather, gold-toned finishes, and subtle Arabian design elements, bringing a culturally elegant touch to the modern design language.
The suites also feature 4K ultra-HD entertainment screens, touchscreen controls embedded into the armrests, and a customizable dining experience that includes in-suite lighting designed to emulate fine dining restaurant ambiance. From the ceiling design to the floor carpets, the First Class cabin reflects a commitment to delivering a sensory experience that is immersive and unmistakably premium.
Riyadh Air’s Business Class product is also turning heads, featuring all-aisle access and fully flat beds in a reverse herringbone layout that ensures privacy and direct access to walkways for every seat. Each pod includes a large personal screen, wireless charging, Bluetooth audio connectivity, and touch-free lighting and seat controls, reflecting the airline’s emphasis on both comfort and innovation.
One particularly novel feature is the "personal hospitality light", a small indicator at each seat that subtly alerts cabin crew when the passenger is awake and open to interaction, providing a balance between attentive service and privacy—something rarely seen in commercial aviation. The overall design is sleek and understated, with calming tones and textured finishes that evoke a sense of relaxation and quiet sophistication.
Not to be overlooked is Riyadh Air’s Premium Economy cabin, which the airline says was designed to "blur the line between Business and Economy." Seats in this section are significantly wider than industry average, with extra legroom, deep recline angles, and extendable leg and calf rests. Each seat comes equipped with a large personal screen, footrests, and ample storage for carry-on items and devices.
Passengers in Premium Economy will also benefit from enhanced meal service and dedicated lavatories—features that align with Riyadh Air’s strategy to offer more than just a stepping stone between classes. The lighting and aesthetic elements in this cabin mimic the calmer, more upscale mood of Business Class, providing a consistent premium feel across the aircraft.
Even the Economy Class experience aboard Riyadh Air’s 787s is designed with a premium mindset. The seats are ergonomically shaped with adjustable headrests, USB-C charging ports, and personal touch-screen entertainment systems at every seat. The airline has also invested in next-generation seating materials to reduce fatigue on long-haul flights and increase cabin space perception through clever lighting and color usage.
The Economy cabin benefits from Boeing’s Dreamliner innovations, including larger windows, higher cabin humidity, and quieter engines, which together create a more comfortable flying experience. Riyadh Air has also ensured that Economy passengers will enjoy high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi and multilingual entertainment content curated to appeal to a global passenger base.
The four-class interior design not only serves as a technical showcase—it is also deeply embedded in Saudi Arabia’s broader soft power goals. Riyadh Air is not merely a commercial airline; it’s an ambassador of Saudi hospitality and cultural refinement. Subtle references to traditional Saudi art, calligraphy-inspired lighting elements, and regionally sourced materials can be seen throughout the cabin, reinforcing the airline’s identity as both ultra-modern and authentically Arabian.
Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas, former head of Etihad Airways, emphasized that the cabin strategy reflects a “no-compromise” philosophy on both design and service delivery. “Our aim is to set a new benchmark in air travel—one that combines technology, culture, and sustainability with world-class service," he said at the unveiling.
As Riyadh Air prepares for its first commercial flights in mid-2025, the airline is quickly shaping up to be more than just another Gulf carrier. With its ambitious network plans, state-of-the-art fleet, and deep government backing, it is positioned to become a disruptor in the premium long-haul market. Its focus on passenger experience—right down to the finest details of cabin lighting and personalized service—suggests an airline that intends not just to compete, but to lead.
If the cabin interiors are any indication, Riyadh Air’s entry into global aviation could redefine luxury in the skies—and challenge legacy carriers to keep up.
