Kim Jong Un Showcases New Hotels With Daughter to Highlight North Korea’s Economic Progress

Post by : Saif

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has attended the opening of several new hotels in the country’s northeast, using the event to highlight what he described as growing economic progress. He was joined by his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, during the ceremonies, drawing attention both to the new developments and to her increasing public presence.

The hotel openings took place over the weekend in Samjiyon City, a tourist zone near North Korea’s border with China. According to state media, five hotels were inaugurated across two days. Kim attended the ceremonies on Saturday and toured the newly built hotels with his daughter, as shown in photographs released by the official Korean Central News Agency.

Samjiyon has long been promoted by North Korean authorities as an important tourism and development project. The area is close to Mount Paektu, a mountain that holds deep symbolic value in the country’s history and political messaging. By investing in hotels and tourism facilities there, the government aims to present an image of modern growth and national pride.

During the event, Kim praised the new hotels as proof of what the country has achieved. State media quoted him as saying the buildings show the rising status of the people and the country’s future development potential. Such language fits a broader campaign by the leadership to highlight progress despite economic difficulties and international sanctions.

Kim Jong Un’s appearance with his daughter has also attracted attention. Analysts outside North Korea believe Kim Ju Ae, who is still a teenager, is being slowly introduced to the public as a possible future leader. While the government has not made any official statement about succession, her presence at major events continues to fuel speculation.

In recent weeks, Kim has been especially active in attending public ceremonies. State media reported that he has appeared at several facility openings in the past month alone, including multiple regional factories. These events are often carefully staged to show economic activity, construction, and development across the country.

The timing of these appearances is significant. North Korea is expected to hold its first ruling party congress in five years in early 2026. At this major political gathering, the leadership is expected to announce a new five-year economic development plan. State-run newspapers have been urging citizens to make extra efforts to complete key projects before the congress begins.

Economic challenges remain serious for North Korea, which faces long-standing international sanctions, limited trade, and ongoing shortages. However, the leadership continues to emphasize self-reliance and domestic achievements as part of its political message.

By showcasing new hotels, factories, and infrastructure projects, Kim Jong Un appears to be reinforcing the idea that the country is moving forward. His public appearances with his daughter add another layer of meaning, signaling continuity and stability as the country prepares for an important political moment.

As the party congress approaches, more such events are likely, with the government seeking to present a picture of progress, unity, and confidence about the future.
