Cairo, Egypt — EgyptAir is ramping up its widebody fleet modernization strategy with a new order for six additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft, strengthening its long-haul capabilities and reinforcing its ambitions to become a key transit hub between Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.

The deal was announced during a signing ceremony at Airbus headquarters, marking a deepening relationship between the Egyptian flag carrier and the European aerospace giant. These six jets add to the four A350s previously ordered, bringing EgyptAir’s total A350 commitments to ten aircraft — a clear sign of confidence in the type’s efficiency, comfort, and global performance.

EgyptAir, like many legacy airlines in the region, is undertaking a comprehensive fleet renewal and expansion program aimed at improving fuel efficiency, reducing maintenance costs, and offering a world-class passenger experience. The A350 is a natural fit for these goals.

With its long range, high fuel efficiency, and carbon-fiber composite fuselage, the A350-900 is designed for intercontinental routes with improved environmental performance. Airbus claims the aircraft delivers 25% lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft in the same category — an essential metric in today’s sustainability-driven aviation world.
"The A350 is central to our future network plans. It’s the aircraft that gives us the range, efficiency, and passenger appeal we need to stay competitive globally," said a senior EgyptAir official during the announcement.

EgyptAir plans to deploy the A350s on key long-haul routes, potentially including North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, where demand is rising and competition is intensifying. With hubs in Cairo and potential future expansion in Sphinx Airport, the airline is positioning itself as a bridge between continents, leveraging Egypt’s geographic location.

The fleet upgrade is also aimed at replacing older, less efficient widebodies — such as the Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 models — that have served EgyptAir for years but no longer match modern performance or passenger expectations.

The A350’s appeal goes beyond just numbers. EgyptAir is investing in a premium cabin layout, featuring modern business class seats, advanced inflight entertainment, improved lighting, and cabin pressure systems that enhance passenger comfort on ultra-long-haul flights.

The aircraft also offers flexibility in seating capacity, allowing the airline to balance yield management with route profitability. Airbus’s Airspace cabin, found on the A350, is designed to improve passenger well-being while also optimizing cargo and belly space — crucial for routes with strong cargo demand.

EgyptAir’s expanded A350 order underscores Airbus’s growing influence in Africa, where several carriers — including Ethiopian Airlines, Air Senegal, and RwandAir — have also placed their bets on Airbus widebodies for international expansion.

This latest deal signals EgyptAir’s intent to stay ahead of regional competition, grow sustainably, and continue building a reputation as a modern, forward-looking carrier capable of competing on the global stage.

While Airbus has not specified exact delivery dates for the newly ordered aircraft, industry sources suggest the jets will begin arriving from late 2026 onwards, with integration into the fleet to be staggered for smooth operational ramp-up.

The airline is expected to pair the A350 with advanced digital flight planning and predictive maintenance systems, helping to maximize uptime, reduce fuel costs, and ensure smoother operations from day one.

EgyptAir’s latest move to double down on the Airbus A350 signals far more than just a fleet order. It’s a strategic investment in efficiency, sustainability, and global competitiveness. With long-haul travel resurging post-pandemic and Africa’s air traffic forecasted to double in the next two decades, the national carrier is arming itself with the tools to grow smart — and soar farther.
