As part of its continued push toward contactless transit and digital-first commuting, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded a key contract for the operation and maintenance of Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) under its ongoing Phase IV expansion.
The contract has been awarded to Datamatics Global Services Ltd., a leading technology and automation service provider, under Tender No. ODW-982, covering new lines and stations introduced in Phase IV. This move underscores DMRC’s commitment to modernizing passenger experience through self-service ticketing infrastructure and smart mobility tools.
Scope of the Contract: Phase IV’s Expanding Footprint
Under this agreement, Datamatics will manage the operation, software upkeep, hardware maintenance, and support services for ATVMs installed across Phase IV corridors. This includes new sections like:
With these extensions, Delhi Metro will add over 65 km of track and dozens of new stations to its already extensive network, further increasing the demand for efficient, automated ticketing solutions.
ATVMs have become a vital part of the Delhi Metro ecosystem, enabling passengers to buy single-journey and smart card tickets without queueing at manned counters. The new contract ensures these machines are kept fully operational, updated, and user-friendly as passenger volumes continue to grow.
According to DMRC officials, the aim is to reduce human intervention, improve transaction speed, and encourage cashless, touch-free travel — especially in the post-pandemic era where hygiene and contactless systems are paramount.
This development is part of DMRC’s broader digital transformation initiative, which includes QR code-based ticketing, mobile apps, and smart card integrations with other city transit systems. With more than 5 million daily commuters, Delhi Metro is one of the world’s largest and busiest metro systems, and its adoption of automated ticket vending is seen as critical to scaling operations efficiently.
Datamatics, the vendor selected, brings proven experience in metro ticketing technologies, having previously worked with metro systems in Mumbai, Bangalore, and international markets. Their continued collaboration with DMRC reflects growing confidence in public-private tech partnerships in India’s infrastructure sector.
With the expansion of Phase IV expected to complete in stages by 2026, Delhi Metro is taking proactive steps to ensure that ticketing — the first and often most critical passenger interaction — is smooth, reliable, and in line with international standards.
As cities become smarter and commuters demand faster, simpler ways to move, this contract marks another step toward building an intelligent, commuter-centric public transport experience in India’s capital.
